How you can help

If you see or hear someone being abused, report it. You can remain anonymous.

Do not harshly judge people who return time and time again to their abusers. Sometimes the fear of the unknown is worse than the pain of staying. Be supportive of their efforts to leave and help them find options for help.

Donate to your local shelter. Especially needed:

  • work clothes and interview outfits
  • make-up and toiletries
  • shoes
  • bus passes
  • gift certificates for haircuts
  • gift certificates for thrift stores
  • self-help books

Are you a manager or supervisor? Donate your time to help with resume writing and interviewing skills. Many victims have been out of the workforce for years.

Donate gently used household items (kitchen items and furniture). To someone making a fresh start, even the basic necessities can be a luxury. Ask your local shelter if they accept these items.
